Stakeholders in the real estate sector have called on governments at all levels to partner with the private sector in order to bridge the deficit in housing and provide mortgage to Nigerians at reasonable rates.
It is estimated that the housing deficit in Nigeria as at 2025 is 28million units, with about 700,000 homes needed annually to bridge the gap.
Speaking with newsmen on the sideline of an event in honour of his 75th birthday celebration, renowned real estate expert, Jide Taiwo, said government at all levels must put in place factors that will ensure easier accessibility to properties in Nigeria.
He noted that if Nigerians have access to funds and other incentives, it will help to address the housing gap in the country.
“Government must provide factors that will enhance easier accessibility to funds and even to properties itself. This will help to bridge the gap in housing deficit in the country,” he said.
Also speaking, Surveyor Yemi Olugbenle, lamented that Nigeria is still far below the housing needs, urging the federal government to work together with the private sector to cut the gap.
“Nigeria is still far below the housing needs of the people. It is therefore important for government to collaborate with the private sector in delivering housing to Nigerians at a reasonable cost”, he said.
Meanwhile, the daughter of the celebrant, Jumoke Anifalaje highlighted the importance of health to excellence in career, adding that it will help in improving the quality of the residents.
One of the activitie marking the birthday celebration include a medical outreach held at the Olota of Ota palace, in Ogun state where over 500 residents benefited.
Free eye tests, medical check-ups, sugar tests, consultation, health talk, blood pressure screenings, free medications and distribution of glasses were given to beneficiaries.
